Florida Republicans Mario Díaz-Balart (R) and Carlos Gimenez (R) met with elected Venezuelan leader María Corina Machado, where they reaffirmed the United States’s support and commitment to realizing a truly free and democratically run Venezuela.
“María Corina Machado is Venezuela’s brave liberator. She has survived years of repression, unjust and targeted indictments, and even threats to her life. Still, she has united her people, both in Venezuela and across the diaspora, through a remarkable movement,” Rep. Díaz-Balart said in a press release.
“Against all odds, she exposed the fraud and illegitimacy of the Maduro regime. Thanks to President Trump’s bold and decisive leadership in capturing Nicolás Maduro and Cilia Flores and bringing them to justice, Venezuelans are closer than ever to regaining freedom, democracy, and prosperity,” he continued.
Rep. Gimenez welcomed and praised Machado as being the “bravest woman I will ever know, a fearless leader who embodies the courage and unbreakable will of the Venezuelan people. After enduring years of repression and threats from a brutal narco-terrorist regime, Maria Corina united the Venezuelan people behind a historic democratic movement.”
Gimenez continues, praising President Donald Trump’s “decisive actions” in the capture of Maduro and affirming that the remaining political prisoners in Venezuela will be released.
Machado said a few key words in an address to the media where she remarks on “this historic moment” and that one day “we will have a free Cuba, and free Nicaragua.”
“It's a huge honor to be here. On behalf of the Venezuelan people and the President-elect, I'm going to tell you first and foremost that Venezuela will be free. And once we liberate Venezuela, we will keep working, and we will have a free Cuba and free Nicaragua, and you were saying, for the first time in history, we have the Americas free of communism, of dictatorship, and of narco terrorism.” Machado said.
She also thanked President Trump and the U.S. for its commitment to ensuring a democratically free Venezuela, and that she aims to welcome many of the Venezuelan diaspora back to the country they fled.
“We wouldn't be here if it weren't for the U.S. commitment and resilience, generosity, and courage of the Venezuelan people, but also because we were counted on with the support, vision, and courage of credible leaders such as the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and members of his moral compass. Our friends,” she remarked.
“Once we achieve a democratic improvement, we will see millions of our children coming back home, and that's our goal. That's the force that moves us, it's a force of love, which is the most powerful.”
