In the wake of the New York Mayoral election, Florida Congressman Carlos Gimenez (R) branded election winner Zohran Mamdani as a “Marxist,” comparing him to Fidel Castro.

“I’m the only Member of Congress born in Cuba. My family was forced from home after the Communist takeover — I recognize the extremists when I see them,” Gimenez said during a press conference.

The Congressman took part in the press conference where he made connections between Mamdani and Fidel Castro, calling for the end of “this fringe Democrat experiment.”

“The Castro regime destroyed my homeland. They can't even keep the lights on, they don't have food, they don't have medicine. It's a total disaster for an island, a beautiful island," Gimenez noted. "The primary reason I'm in Congress is that I want to make sure that my children and grandchildren never suffer the same fate that my parents did, having to leave their country and bring us to a new country with about $10 in their pocket. Mamdani is a Marxist, and we need to fight that much harder to stop this fringe Democrat experiment for America!”

Many Republicans have been hyper critical of Mamdani’s win and his proposed policies, with many echoing the same claims of socialist rhetoric.

House Speaker Mike Johnson argues that the Democratic Party has “surrendered to socialists” and that Mamdani’s election win is a loss for the American people.

“Zohran Mamdani’s victory marks the BIGGEST WIN FOR destructive, dangerous, big government SOCIALISM in U.S. history — and a loss for freedom loving American people. He’s an unapologetic Marxist — fully EMBRACED by the Democrat establishment. The Democrat Party has officially surrendered to socialists and the radicals who HATE America — they now control the movement,” Johnson asserted during a press conference on Capitol Hill.
