Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella has endorsed Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) for reelection in Florida’s 27th Congressional District (FL CD 27).

“The best friend Colombia has in the United States Congress is María  Elvira Salazar,” President de la Espriella said. “She has always been there, and she has always defended Colombia.

“That is why I stand with my friend Salazar, because she has always stood with Colombia,” de la Espriella added.

Rep. Salazar Expresses Gratitude

“I am deeply grateful to my friend President Abelardo de la Espriella for his support and his trust,” Rep. Salazar said. “Abelardo and I have known each other for years, and I know the love he has for Colombia and the determination he brings to this moment.”

"Together, we have an opportunity to begin a new chapter between our two countries, one built on security, prosperity, and our shared commitment to freedom.”

Congresswoman Salazar's Efforts For Colombia in Congress

De la Espriella’s endorsement reflects Congresswoman Salazar’s allyship and commitment to Colombia, as she has prioritized the nation’s welfare during her time in Congress.

As Chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, Rep. Salazar fought to protect the integrity of Colombia’s 2026 presidential election, ensuring Colombians could participate in free, fair, and transparent elections.

Congresswoman Salazar has also introduced legislation to crack down on narco-trafficking in the Western Hemisphere systemically, with bills such as the DISPOSE Act and the NO FARC Act.

Back-To-Back Endorsements From Prominent Figures

President De la Espriella’s endorsement comes less than a week after Venezuelan opposition leader and 2025 Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado endorsed the incumbent Congresswoman.

“She has been a loyal, firm ally to the cause of liberty of Venezuela,” María Corina Machado said. “The Venezuelan people are counting on you, and you know you can count on our support.”

Rep. Salazar's Odds

Rep. Salazar is facing former TV news anchor Elliot Rodriguez in the race for FL CD 27.

According to VoteHub, polling suggests narrow support for the Republican congresswoman, with 46.5% backing her for reelection.
