In a recent appearance on Fox Business' Evening Edit, Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) called on Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) to remove the filibuster 60-vote threshold to get the continuing resolution (CR) on the President's desk.
Rep. Steube deflated House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' (D-NY) attempts to pin the blame on Republicans for the shutdown because they control the House, Senate, and White House.
"What he is failing to mention to the American people is that in order to get anything passed in the Senate, you need 60 votes," Rep. Steube explained. "And last time I checked, there are only 53 Republican Senators. So why don't we just do what he says that we are doing and call on Thune, which I have done repeatedly, to do away with the filibuster 60-vote threshold and pass the CR to fund the government?"
Host Elizabeth MacDonald noted that Democrats under Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) intend to keep Obamacare tax credits, even as sources like the Washington Post are beginning to admit that the Affordable Care Act has failed to achieve its stated goal.
The Florida Congressman agreed, noting that "Republicans, ever since Obamacare got passed... do not support it because of the high cost to taxpayers, and you are now seeing those bills come due."
Steube further pointed out that "it is in the plain language of the bills that the Democrats have filed: They want to give healthcare to illegals. I put it on my Twitter account. We put the language out there so people can see exactly what they are asking for."
"They care more about illegals getting free healthcare from our taxpayer dollars than they do our military servicemembers and every other federal worker getting paid," Steube concluded.
