Congresswoman Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) shared her frustration with members of Congress who talk about protecting national interests and combating the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) yet do nothing about it in an interview with The Floridian publisher Javier Manjarres.

When discussing the significance of U.S. agricultural production, especially in Florida, Rep. Cammack affirms that “it’s absolutely critical” and “more important than ever” to modify the systems to protect Americans from foreign interference.

“Every two hours, one component of American agriculture is stolen by the CCP… and what’s really frustrating is people will talk a good game about fighting the CCP, but when it comes to it, they are more than happy to step aside and let the CCP run all over them,” Rep. Cammack claimed.

“And when it comes to agriculture, that’s a national security issue,” She added. “We cannot rely on anyone else for our food supply, just like we shouldn’t rely on them for medical supplies, for other elements of our critical supply chain.”

The Florida Congresswoman emphasized the importance of domestic agricultural production, informing The Floridian that the Sunshine State feeds “193 million Americans during the winter months.”

“193 million Americans count on Florida to be able to produce a crop, and its getting tougher and tougher every year,” Rep. Cammack affirmed. “A lot of that has to do with outside pressure, high inputs, I mean, it’s a mess.”

In 2025, Congress passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA), which continues pivotal “commodities” programs and increases spending on agricultural programs by roughly $66 billion over 10 years, according to Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation.

At the end of April 2026, the House also passed the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, which makes significant adjustments to both agricultural policy and nutritional assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

  1. Local governments need to protect land zoned for Agriculture. Farmers will buy other farms at “farmland” prices. No farmer can afford residential prices. We need to create protections for farmland so it doesn’t get bought up for homes. We actually have timberland that is really land in holding for residential or commercial use. Make people buy timberland for expansion, not farmland. We don’t let people change the zoning next to your house to hotel zoning. We shouldn’t be allowing people to rezone agricultural land to other zoning types without unanimous votes, and even then, the public should be really watching when it happens.

  2. We should also consider farmland like wetlands. If you buy farmland to use for something other than farming, put some multiple of that acreage into “agricultural conservation”. That way we can create farming onclaves that can still be sold to other farmers, but for almost nothing else.
