MIAMI—Saudi Arabia almost pulled off an other upset at the 2026 FIFA World Cup when it came 10 minutes from beating a younger Uruguay squad that is expected to finish first or second in Group H.
Abdulelah al Amri opened up the scoring when he tapped in a deflection at the 41st minute. After halftime, a visibly worn Uruguay team struggled to find consistency even though they outshot the Saudi squad.
The Uruguay fans weren't able to celebrate until 80th minute when midfielder Maxi Araujo scored the tying goal after Al Owais pushed Federico Vinas' header in Araujo's direction.
The match was played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
All four teams in Group H—Spain, Cape Verde, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia—are tied with 1 point each.
Earlier in the day, Spain tied 1-1 with Cape Verde.
