Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon (D-Jacksonville) blasted Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) for being a failure to the state of Florida as Senator in an exclusive interview with The Floridian.
"It's important to note that Ashley Moody has failed our state. She failed our state, because first of all, she's frankly, she's nowhere to be found," Nixon said. "She's, she's not responsive to people."
Rep. Nixon, who announced her run for Senate in January, further criticized Sen. Moody for not voting to extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which Nixon says kicked "thousands upon thousands" of people off the ACA marketplace.
"They can no longer afford to pay, because the health care premiums have gone up, and it's caused our private and health insurance premiums to go up as well," Nixon said.
She labeled Sen. Moody as being "beholden" to President Donald Trump. Notably, Trump endorsed Moody for a full term for the U.S. Senate in July 2025.
Moody was appointed to the Senate by Gov. Ron DeSantis in January 2025 to replace Marco Rubio, who left to become secretary of state. She previously served as Florida's Attorney General from 2019 to 2025.
"She's just a rubber stamp. She does everything that he says to do," Nixon accused.
In addition, Nixon slammed Moody for denying that then-President Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election. As attorney general, Moody joined 16 other states to nullify election results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin that went in favor of Biden.
"She didn't want to validate the election for Joe Biden, and she was looking out for Donald Trump, and we don't need someone like that," Nixon said.
Nixon continued to criticize Moody for being subservient to Trump.
"We are the ones who need to be standing up to him and checking him when there's overreach, and there's massive amounts of overreach. Ashley Moody's acting like it's not, and so that is why she needs to go," Nixon said.
To reach the senate, Nixon will first have to get past Alexander Vindman for the Democratic nomination. Nixon, a member of the Florida House since 2022, made her pitch to voters to The Floridian.
The primary is Aug. 18, 2026.
