Donate Life Florida and the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (FSHCC) announced a collaboration to raise awareness on organ, eye, and tissue donations in the Hispanic community through a press release this week.
"We’re honored to partner with the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce to ensure more Florida families have access to clear, trusted information about the life saving impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation," Donate Life Florida Chair Patricia L. Darrigan said. “This partnership reflects our commitment to reaching every community with a message that can enhance and extend lives."
According to the release, Donate Life Florida and the FSCHCC's alliance will provide "culturally-relevant educational materials, joint outreach and pathways to empower Floridians" to make educated, and possibly life-saving decisions regarding donations.
Moreover, the information will be in Spanish on the donation and registration process to help engage communities and business leaders across the state.
About one in four of the 6,000 Floridians awaiting a critical transplant are Hispanic. Importantly, the release noted research showing a strong inclination by Hispanic Floridians to register as donors when provided with trusted, clear-cut information.
Donate Life Florida is a non-profit organization aiming to educate Floridians on organ, eye and tissue donations while urging residents to register as donors. The FHSCC is a leading advocate for economic growth for Hispanics and represents over 600,000 Hispanic-owned businesses totaling $90 billion to the state's economy annually.
"For 26 years, the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has worked to ensure that our community thrives economically and in every dimension of our lives," FSHCC Founder and CEO Julio Fuentes said. “This partnership is a natural extension of our mission and legacy of leadership into a new and vital arena: the health and well-being of the communities they serve.”
