Gov. Ron DeSantis' job approval is holding steady at 50% with Florida voters to start his final year in office, according to a Mason-Dixon Florida poll released this week. While the governor's ratings are still fairly high for a public official in his second term, his approval numbers are the lowest since a 45% rating in July 2020, and lower than his 62% high near the beginning of his governorship in March 2019.

Forty-six percent of voters currently disapprove of Gov. DeSantis' job, while another 4% are undecided. The governor's disapproval is the highest since July 2020.

More specifically, Gov. DeSantis is currently popular with men (56% - 42%), while falling slightly underwater with women (45% to 49%). White voters (58% to 39%) and Hispanic voters (49% to 45%) also approve of the governor's job, while Black voters (7% to 84%) are overwhelmingly dissatisfied.

Unsurprisingly, DeSantis holds a 86% current approval rating with Republicans (10% disaproval), while just 10% of Democrats currently favor his performance (87% disaproval). Additionally, Independents hold a 41% current approval of the governor's job, while 52% dissaprove of his performance.

Notably, Gov. DeSantis' job performance among Independents is down 10 points from 51% at the start of his term. Hispanic approval is also slightly down from 57%, while Black voter approval is down from 16%.

Furthermore, Gov. DeSantis' job approval among voters aged 50 or older has fallen slightly from 56% to 52%. On the flipside, the governor is slightly above water among voters 50 or younger at 48% to 47%.

While Gov. DeSantis' overall numbers have slightly dipped, his approval rating has generally remained above water during his two terms.

Results from Mason-Dixon are below:

  • March 2019: Approve: 62% - Disapprove 24% - Not Sure 14%
  • July 2020: Approve 45% - Disaprove 49% - Not Sure 6%
  • February 2021: Approve 53% - Dissaprove 42% - Not Sure 5%
  • February 2022: Approve 53% - Dissaprove 43% - Not Sure 4%
  • September 2022: Approve 55% - Disapprove 42% - Not Sure 3%
  • March 2023: Approve 59% - Disapprove 39% - Not Sure 2%
  • March 2025: Approve 53% - Disaprove 42% - Not sure 5%
  • January 2026: Approve 50% - Disaprove 46% - Not sure 4%

Gov. DeSantis' numbers also came just days before his final State of the State address to Florida voters this week.

Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy, Inc. (Jacksonville) surveyed 625 registered voters live by telephone from Jan. 8 to Jan. 12 for its findings.
