Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford announced his endorsement of Congressman Byron Donalds (R-FL) for Florida governor by praising his commitment to supporting law enforcement in a statement this week.

“I’m proud to endorse Byron Donalds for Florida Governor. After decades in law enforcement, I know what it takes to keep our communities safe, and I know the kind of leadership that makes it possible," Ford said. "Byron understands that standing behind our men and women in law enforcement is the foundation of safe neighborhoods, thriving families, and strong communities. He’s committed to giving law enforcement the tools and resources we need to do our jobs effectively and get home safe at night."

"Byron has already proven his commitment to public safety, working alongside President Trump to strengthen public safety nationwide, and I have no doubt he will bring that same dedication to Tallahassee," Ford added.

Ford is the 38th Sheriff to back Rep. Donalds in his gubernatorial bid. The list includes Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, Duval County Sheriff T.K. Waters, Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz, Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay, and others.

President Donald Trump, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), and several Florida congressional and state leaders have also endorsed Donalds in the race.

Ford has been the sheriff of Bay County since 2016. He previously served as Chief Deputy of Bay County from 2009 to 2016, with prior roles as a Special Agent and Resident Agent in Charge of the Panama City Field Office with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Bay County is located along the Gulf of America on the Florida Panhandle.

Rep. Donalds is in a Republican primary with Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and businessman James Fishback.

Florida's primary election is Aug. 18, 2026.
