Lt. Gov. Jay Collins announced Rep. Susan Plasencia (R-Orlando) will be joining his gubernatorial team to run statewide political and field operations, according to a release by his campaign this week.

"It is an honor to support Lt. Governor Jay Collins as he runs for Governor," Plasencia said. "His service to our state and nation is unmatched. From his time as an Army Green Beret to his great work as a Senator where we worked together to fight for Floridians, Jay Collins has earned my full support."

Rep. Plasencia represents District 37 in the House, including parts of Orlando. According to a Collins campaign spokesperson in a text to The Floridian, Plasencia rescinded her endorsement of Congressman and Florida gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds (R-FL) after meeting with Collins before joining the team.

"The Republican Party cannot afford to be complacent in this crucial election year. Jay Collins, serving alongside Governor DeSantis, is dedicating every day to meeting people all over our great state and hearing directly from them. He is earning this election," Plasencia continued. "There’s some serious momentum behind Jay, and it is a privilege to be a part of his team as he runs to be our next Governor.”

Lt. Gov. Collins commended Rep. Plasencia for joining his campaign.

“It’s great to have Representative Susan Plasencia on the team,” Collins said. "She has been a great conservative fighter in the Florida House and I'm glad to have worked with her during my time in the legislature. She has championed school choice, supported our law enforcement officers, and protected children from predatory social media sites. Her proven history of winning highly contested elections is going to be an asset for this campaign. Let’s get to work.”

Collins is in a Republican primary with U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and businessman James Fishback.

Florida's primary election will take place on Aug 18.
