The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided the home and office of Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Albert Carvalho this week.
Carvalho has been Los Angeles's superintendent of schools since 2022. The district is the second-largest in the country, serving approximately 500,000 students, trailing only New York City.
According to a report, FBI agents descended upon Carvalho's office under court-authorized search warrants on the 24th floor of district headquarters in Los Angeles and at his home in San Pedro, about 30 minutes south of L.A.
Agents were also reportedly carrying boxes of unidentified items from the scene.
It is unclear why Carvalho's home and office were raided, or if he's directly involved in the investigation as of Tuesday afternoon.
No arrests have been reported.
Carvalho previously served as superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools from 2008 to 2022.
The Floridian will update this story with new information when it comes out.
