The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) announced its endorsement of Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier for a full term to the position this week.
"AIF is proud to endorse James Uthmeier for Florida Attorney General,” AIF President and CEO Brewster Bevis said in a statement.“During his time in office, he has demonstrated a clear commitment to protecting consumers, defending free enterprise, and ensuring Florida remains a safe place where businesses can grow and their employees can thrive. Strong economic prosperity and the rule of law go hand-in-hand, so it is vital for our state’s chief legal officer to vigorously enforce our laws and promote a strong judicial system, and we’re confident James will continue to do just that.”
Known as "The Voice of Florida Business," the AIF has represented the principles of prosperity and free enterprise before the three branches of state government since 1920. It was also founded to promote an economic environment in Florida "conducive to the growth, development, and welfare of industry and business and the people of the state."
Uthmeier thanked the AIF for their endorsement in a statement.
“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Associated Industries of Florida, a respected voice for job creators and the free-enterprise principles that have driven Florida’s economic success for over a century,” said Uthmeier. “AIF’s commitment to prosperity, good governance, and a thriving business climate reflects the values I am fighting for as Attorney General. Together, we will continue protecting Florida’s families and working to keep our state safe, strong, and free!”
The AG Republican primary is Aug. 18. Steven S. Leskovich is competing against Uthmeier, who has also been endorsed by President Donald Trump, for the nomination.
Democrats running for the nomination include Jose Javier Rodriguez and Jim Lewis.
The general election is Nov. 3.
Along with Uthmeier, the AIF also endorsed Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia for a full term as CFO earlier this month.
