The Gun Owners of America (GOA) slammed Miami mayor-elect Eileen Higgins in a press statement this week, emphasizing her history against the Second Amendment as she prepares to take over the city.

Specifically, the GOA blasted Higgins' time on the Miami-Dade Commission, saying she supported cashless bail policies pushed by anti-gun activists, leading to repeat offenses, law enforcement strains, and public safety issues.

“As a Miami native and former South Florida law enforcement officer, I believe Eileen Higgins’ record raises serious concerns for Second Amendment rights and public safety," Florida State Director of Gun Owners of America Luis Valdes said. "The policies she promoted as a Miami-Dade County Commissioner have not prevented crime."

The GOA also critcized Higgins for volunteering with Moms Demand Action, a non-partisan group pushing for more universal gun safety measures around the country. The organization has particularly come out for universal background checks, red flag laws, and bans on assault weapons, including the popular AR-15 rifle.

"Real safety comes from allowing law-abiding citizens to exercise their rights and defend themselves," Valdes continued. "Her record shows a pattern of focusing on restrictions for responsible gun owners while softening consequences for criminals who commit violent crimes against the law-abiding.”

The Gun Owners of America is a non-profit lobbying organization looking to protect and preserve the rights of gun owners under the Second Amendment (2A).

The organization also compared Higgins, who beat Emilio Gonzalez in the mayoral race earlier this week, to other anti-gun mayors like New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson.

Alisabet Valdes, National Chair of Fuerza 2A, also critcized Higgins' polices for harming Miami's community, particularly Hispanics and women.

“Mayor-elect Eileen Higgins’ long history of anti-gun policies has negatively impacted Miami’s Hispanic and other minority communities," Valdes said. "Policies that restrict the ability of law-abiding citizens—especially women—to protect themselves, while taking a lenient approach toward violent offenders, directly undermine the goals she claims to champion. Gun control measures punish those who follow the law, not the criminals who ignore it.”
