The Figgers Foundation, a nonprofit aiming to improve education with effective technology and health-related access, announced it is rolling out a plan offering free devices, three years of internet service, and 4G LTE cell service to Floridians across 18 counties this week.

The initiative, part of the foundation Florida Connect Program, aims to bring technology to local communities that may encounter less connectivity.

“Christmas is a time for helping our neighbors, and that’s why I’m excited for our Foundation to be part of the Florida Connect program," said Freddie Figgers, entrepreneur and innovator of the Figgers Foundation, in a release.

"This is a cost-free program for eligible Floridians, and I hope we have many families checking our website to see if they are eligible today," Fiiggers continued. "If these devices help one child with school or help one parent find a job, then this program is hitting the target. Our mission is to support those families most in need - especially during the holidays.”

The foundation encouraged residents to apply quickly with the approach of the busy holiday season, as devices will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Eligible Florida Connect counties include:

  • Gadsden, Jefferson, Madison, and Taylor (Tallahassee area)
  • Lafayette, Dixie, Gilchrist, Levy, Putnam, Bradford, and Union (Gainesville area)
  • Hamilton (Jacksonville area)
  • Hardee and Highland (Tampa area)
  • DeSoto, Glades, and Hendry (Southwest Florida area)
  • Okeechobee (Palm Beach area)

The Figgers Foundation partners with several associations in their community efforts, including the American Cancer Society, Brothers 2 Brothers Alliance, Inc., Camillus House, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU), Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Crossroads Academy Charter School, East Orange Community Charter School, Manatee County Rural Health Services Foundation, and more.

It is also associated with Baptist Health Care Pensacola and the Broward Health Foundation, as well as many other health clinics across the state.

More information on the program can be found here.
