Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna (R) slammed Democrats for opposing President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.

Rep. Luna affirmed that claims that the U.S. is sending weapons to Russia are false and that prominent Democrat leaders have held ties to Moscow.

“If [Democrats] could actually read, they would see that we're not sending weapons to Russia. That's simply not the case,” she said in an interview with Fox News. “If you look historically, I think it was also President Bill Clinton who had a great relationship with Moscow.”

The Congresswoman claimed that the reason Democrats are pushing their narrative is to “brainwash their voter base.”

She further claimed that it is not just Democrats that hold ties to Russia, but other figures in D.C. that hold financial and defense ties to Moscow.

“There are many people, not just Democrats in Washington, who don't want this peace deal to go through. And that's because a lot of them have an invested interest in some of these defense contractors, and they're personally invested with their stock portfolio,” she argued.

President Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Mar-a-Lago over the weekend, where the two leaders further discussed brokering a peace deal. Following the meeting, Trump said that they are “getting a lot closer, maybe very close” to ending the Russia-Ukraine War.

"We had a terrific meeting. We discussed a lot of things. As you know, I had an excellent phone call with President Putin that lasted for over two hours. We discussed a lot of points, and I do think we're getting a lot closer," Trump informed.

The president said they covered "95%" of the issues needed to end the war. He then detailed the call with European leaders after he met with Zelenskyy, indicating that it went well.

Zelenskyy noted how close negotiations are to achieving a peace deal.
