It appears as if the "All eyes are on DeSantis, who can call for a special session at any moment" statement I made a couple days back about Governor Ron DeSantis calling for Florida's congressional lines to be redrawn may come to fruition.
With redistricting taking center stage in American politics, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may have thrown another jab at House Speaker Daniel Perez by all but inferring that a redistricting special session could already be in the works.
"Stay Tuned," posted Gov. DeSantis on social media in response to a Newswire social media post that claimed Speaker Perez said that the redrawing of the congressional maps was "not planned."
Speaker Perez has already assembled a select committee to address the midterm redistricting push in Florida after Governor Ron DeSantis signaled that he favored redrawing the existing congressional map.
Perez hasn't announced if the select committee on redistricting would meet to redraw the state's congressional map before the commencement of the 2026 legislative session, but Gov. DeSantis appears ready to sidestep Perez and just unilaterally call for a special session in late November or sometime in December.
Expect DeSantis to call for a special session to redraw the congressional lines.
