We will have to wait another month to determine the next Miami mayor.

Eileen Higgins, a Miami-Dade County commissioner, and Emilio Gonzalez, who formerly served as Miami’s city manager, earned 36% and 19% of the vote, respectively, but failed to cross the 50% threshold to win outright on Tuesday night.

Florida Democrats congratulated Higgins, who is looking to become the first woman elected mayor of the city, on social media.

"Congratulations to Eileen Higgins for advancing to a run-off in Miami’s Mayoral race! It’s been 28 years since Miami last elected a Democrat as its Mayor, and tonight’s result shows Miami is on the path to getting the leadership it deserves," Florida Democrats wrote.

The Miami Young Republicans also congratulated their pick on advancing to the runoff.

"We are thrilled to announce that we have delivered Emilio Gonzalez into the runoff in the race for Mayor of Miami!" the Miami Young Republicans wrote. "We are proud that our Miami Young Republicans worked a hard-fought grassroots campaign for the best Republican candidate in the race."

The pair is running to replace Mayor Francis Suarez, who is term-limited.
