President Donald Trump recently stated that his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, will be remembered "as the greatest Secretary of State in the history of the United States."
Trump made the remark during an address following the signing of the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, in which Hamas freed the last 20 surviving hostages in exchange for Israel freeing multiple Palestinian prisoners, which constitutes the first phase of Trump's proposed agreement.
As noted, the President made sure to credit Secretary Rubio, calling him "the greatest Secretary of State in the history of the United States." "I believe that," he assured.
Conservative influencer John Cardillo agreed in an X post, expressing that "Rubio is certainly the best Secretary of State in my lifetime."
Moreover, Trump pointed out the irony of the sentiment, noting that the two men were bitter rivals in the 2016 Election.
"We really fought it out," the President remarked, referencing the 2016 Republican primary. "You remember, he was tough. He was nasty. Who the hell thought this was going to happen, Marco?"
Trump notably mocked then-Senator Rubio as "Little Marco," prompting Rubio to fire back with digs at the size of Trump's hands in relation to his manhood.
However, the two proved allies during Trump's first term. Rubio helped in crafting Trump's Western Hemisphere policy and other foreign and domestic strategies, leading to speculation that the former Senator would serve as Vice President during the 2024 Election.
"I'm in the Senate because I want to serve the country," Rubio told The Floridian last March. "Being vice president is an important way to serve the country. I've also been clear. I've never talked to Donald Trump or talked to anybody on his team or family or inner circle about vice president. That's the decision he's going to make. He's got plenty of really good people to pick from."
