Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier indicated his office will be reaching out to a private commercial driver's license (CDL) school in Washington after it was revealed that Harjinder Singh, the Indian national accused of making an illegal U-turn while driving a semi-truck on Florida's Turnpike back in August, failed his CDL test 10 times over two months from March, 10, 2023 to May 5, 2023.
Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin was the first to report the news through an X post this week.
"As we continue our investigation into California, Washington, and Harjinder Singh, we learned that Singh failed his written exam 10 times, and he took his behind-the-wheel training course at a private CDL school in Washington," Uthmeier wrote. "That school will be hearing from my office soon."
According to Melugin, speaking to a senior official in the Florida attorney general's office, Singh also failed his air brakes knowledge test twice. Moreover, the Washington company that provided Singh with his CDL license allegedly attested that he could speak English, even though he couldn't.
Singh also carried a California CDL at the time of the crash, which
killed two people and another at a nearby hospital.
The stunning details follow Uthmeier's move this month to sue the State of California and Washington over its sanctuary state policies involving undocumented immigrants, saying it has harmed states like Florida from protecting its residents.
Singh entered the U.S. illegally in 2018.
"We filed a lawsuit against California on behalf of Florida to hold them accountable for the carnage that their sanctuary illegal immigration policies have caused to states like Florida across the country," Uthmeier
said to Sean Hannity on Fox News.
Florida Republicans also criticized California over its sanctuary policies following the deadly crash.
"Florida will not stand idly by while the failed policies of California and Gavin Newsom endanger the lives of our residents," Rep. Juan Porras (R-Miami)
told The Floridian.
