Representative Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) has issued a statement in praise of the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was brokered by President Donald Trump.
The development brings an end to the two-year war as Hamas released the last 20 living hostages taken on October 7th, 2023, in exchange for Israel releasing numerous Palestinian prisoners.
"I wholeheartedly applaud this landmark agreement, which represents a major step forward for peace, security, and religious freedom in the region," Rep. Bilirakis said in a statement. "This achievement would not have been possible without the strong leadership of President Trump, along with the dedicated diplomacy of Secretary of State Rubio," he noted, adding that "their tireless efforts brought both sides to the table and helped deliver a breakthrough that many thought impossible. The return of hostages to their families is especially moving and long overdue—a powerful reminder of what is at stake and what can be achieved through determined engagement."
Additionally, Rep. Bilirakis emphasized that it is his "hope and prayer" that "this agreement marks a true turning point, one that reaffirms the value of American leadership on the global stage and sets the foundation for a more stable and peaceful future." "I remain committed to working with our allies to ensure the successful implementation of this accord and to advance the broader vision of lasting peace and mutual respect it represents," he concluded.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have lauded the agreement, noting that President Trump deserves credit for brokering the deal.
Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL), who is currently vying for Florida's governorship, took to social media to praise the deal, expressing that President Trump's leadership has proven that "PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH WORKS."
