The Florida Republican Party condemned a post allegedly made by a Palmetto Bay Democratic councilmember mocking the death of Charlie Kirk. The post, supposedly written by Councilmember Steve Cody, read 'Charlie Kirk is a fitting sacrifice to our Lords: Smith & Wesson: Hallowed be their names.'

“Florida Democrat Official Steve Cody is a disgrace to public office," Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power said.

Smith & Wesson is a firearm manufacturer founded in 1852. The gun used to kill Kirk was a bolt-action rifle, according to authorities.

The founder of Turning Point USA, Kirk was shot while speaking at a campus event at Utah Valley State University on Wednesday. His death was immediately mourned by Florida elected officials, as well as President Donald Trump.

"This wasn’t just mocking a murdered patriot. It was spitting on Charlie’s faith, ridiculing his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and sneering at a family and a movement grieving a tragedy. His words are vile and hateful," Power said.

The Florida GOP also shared an op-ed from Miami's Community News, accusing Cody of being a bully, noting it was a long-standing pattern of behavior.

"Steve Cody is a bully and unfit for office. It’s time to remove this scum from public life once and for all," Power said.

The shooter is still at large as of Thursday afternoon. Gov. Ron DeSantis has called for the death penalty for the suspect in the attack.

Florida Democratic Chairwoman Nikki Fried also condemned Kirk's murder, but a statement on Cody has not yet been released.

"Enough is enough. Florida Democrats must condemn this behavior immediately. If they fail to act, they are complicit in the behavior that is at the root of political violence," Power continued. "The people of Palmetto Bay and all Floridians deserve leaders who honor life, faith, and community."
