Florida Republicans have been hypercritical of the so-called "Schumer Shutdown”, a move proposed by Senate minority leader, Chuck Schumer (D-NY), where he intends to reel in the Trump administration and “bring him to the negotiating table.”
“Rather than working with Republicans to responsibly keep the government open, Democrats are coordinating a shutdown strategy with outside leftist groups. This isn’t leadership; it’s brinkmanship. America deserves cooperation, not a shutdown.” Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) said in a social media post.
Florida Congressman Jimmy Patronis (R) claims that the Democrats “don’t practice what they preach,” as he linked a post from the White House that reveals that the Democrats “know the cost of performing a full government shutdown.”
In response to the Republican criticisms, Florida Congressman Darren Soto (D) defends the shutdown as a way for the Democratic Party to have a larger say in negotiations with President Donald Trump when discussing and finding a solution to issues regarding healthcare access.

“Time to negotiate, like we did when we were in the majority. Stop the HUGE healthcare hikes and avoid a Republican Shutdown.” Rep. Soto said.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), alongside Schumer, has been demanding that the president sit down with them to work through their demands to preserve health care access.
Trump previously scheduled a meeting with the Democratic leaders but cancelled it at the request of House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD).
As a result of the Trump administration's stalling of negotiations, both progressive and moderate Democratic politicians are unifying the party to allow a shutdown to happen if Trump doesn't come to the table.
According to an article by Axios, “Democrats who represent districts in the D.C. suburbs, rather than wanting to avert a shutdown for fear of its impact on federal workers, are embracing their party's demands for a negotiation.”
