Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a Second Amendment sales tax holiday during a press conference in Tampa on Monday. The holiday will run from Sept. 8 through Dec. 31st, and include items such as guns and ammunition tax-free.
"I'm proud to announce the beginning of our Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday, which will be no tax, no sales tax on the retail sale of firearms, ammunition, accouterments, as well as items used for fishing or camping, and other items used for hunting," DeSantis said. "That is a big deal for a lot of people."
The governor specified other times covered under the sales tax holiday, along with ammunition.
"It covers bows and crossbows, as well as accessories," DeSantis continued. "It covers firearms, including pistols, rifles, and shotguns. "It includes firearm accessories, holsters, grips, sight stops, cleaning kits, you name it, it's included."
In addition, the tax holiday covers recreational activities such as camping and fishing. Those items include lanterns, stoves, flashlights, sleeping bags, tents, bait and tackle, bags and boxes, and rods and reels.
Moreover, DeSantis said that Floridians who take advantage of the tax holiday were welcome to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's public shooting sports ranges. The governor also added that the range passed would be half price across the state.
"We will further commemorate our constitutional rights as we approach the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding by providing half-price range passes from various public ranges across the state," DeSantis said.
Dates for the exemption include Oct. 12, Columbus Day, Oct. 25, and Dec. 6, specifically, at the Lakeland range and Panama City Beach range. Other dates include Nov. 22 and Dec. 20 at shooting ranges in St. Cloud and West Palm Beach.
Range passes will also be given for free to veterans on Veterans Day on Nov. 11. Florida is notably one of the top states for veterans in the country.
The announcement follows a similar Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday by the governor back in August.
