Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) railed against proposed cuts to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in a recent address to constituents.

In August, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Trump Administration to cut $2 billion in research grants through the NIH, which began in February. This, Wasserman Schultz argues, is detrimental because "these agencies fuel the research that saves lives."

More recently, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will require physicians to warn of the potential adverse effects of acetaminophen, the main ingredient in Tylenol, during pregnancy, as evidence has suggested a link between expectant mothers using Tylenol for pain relief and their children developing autism.

"We must ensure NIH and the CDC have the resources they need to save lives. Too much is at stake," Rep. Wasserman Schultz shared on social media.

In a video shared on social media,Rep. Wasserman Schultz addresses an audience, warning that "our institutions are under attack. Funds for cancer research are on the chopping block."

"Decades of public health research are being undermined by pseudoscience and handouts to the ultra-rich, and that is why we have to stand and fight together to make sure that the NIH and CDC have the resources that they need to finish this fight," the Florida Congresswoman continued. She further warned that we should "not cripple them with cuts, not delay vital trials, all of which will happen if these horrendous proposed cuts from this administration go through, not distract them from their mission, not hamstring them with ceaseless uncertainty."

"These agencies fuel the research that saves lives," Wasserman Schultz concluded. "They drive prevention, early detection, and breakthroughs in treatment. Cutting their funding means cutting hope."
