Congressman Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) said President Donald Trump’s divisive tariffs on overseas imports have resulted in a wave of new U.S. trade deals, a revitalized manufacturing landscape, and drastically raised revenue.

“For those keeping score at home, President Trump’s tariffs have resulted in historic trade deals, raised BILLIONS in revenue, leveled the playing field for American workers, and triggered a wave of next-generation manufacturing investments in the USA,” he said.

Rep. Haridopolos’s statements come after President Trump's impending announcement that smartphone and computer tech giant, Apple, is set to invest $100 billion in manufacturing in the United States to increase domestic production and avoid tariffs.

A White House official said the president will announce at 4:30 EST the launch of the American Manufacturing Program, which aims to bring more of Apple’s supply chain to the U.S. and includes the Cupertino-based company incentivizing other manufacturers to produce more critical components domestically.

Apple CEO Tim Cook met with Trump at the White House in May, after Trump threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on the company if it did not move its manufacturing to the U.S.

If Apple were to continue its overseas manufacturing, the tech giant would face $1.1 billion in tariff-related costs next quarter on top of $800 million from previous tariff-related expenses.

Simultaneously, Apple is trying to compete in the ultra-competitive artificial intelligence world with Cook saying that there are plans to “significantly” expand its investments in AI while also detailing that the company is “very open” to mergers and acquisitions that “accelerate our road map.”

Trump’s next move in bringing tech manufacturing jobs back to the U.S. is targeting other tech manufacturers by utilizing industry-specific tariffs on other products that use semiconductor chips.
