Representatives Cory Mills (R-FL), Mike Haridopolos (R-FL), and Brian Mast (R-FL) expressed support for President Donald Trump's proposed new Census excluding illegal aliens in comments to The Floridian.

Last week, President Trump announced that he was directing the Department of Commerce to conduct a new census that would not include illegal aliens as part of the population.

"I have instructed our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a new and highly accurate CENSUS based on modern-day facts and figures and, importantly, using the results and information gained from the Presidential Election of 2024," Trump announced on Truth Social, adding, "People who are in our Country illegally WILL NOT BE COUNTED IN THE CENSUS. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

The Census is typically held every ten years, with the previous iteration conducted in 2020.

In comments to The Floridian, Rep. Mills said, "There shouldn't be any question on whether or not you are a U.S. citizen. Only Americans should be counted in the Census."

Rep. Mills added that the counting of illegal aliens in the U.S. Census would impact "redistricting and unconstitutionally modify lines in states."

"Census is a check of American citizens," said Rep. Haridopolos. "Just like you wouldn't count people who were here on vacation."

Rep. Mast did not mince his words when asked if illegal aliens should be counted in the U.S. Census.

"Border jumpers, Visa overstays, Asylum seekers…If they are being included, why don't we start including people visiting Florida to get on cruise ships and stay in hotels?" stated Rep. Mast.

Trump's proposal comes as efforts to deport illegal aliens en masse continue, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) supplying assistance in the form of "Alligator Alcatraz" and the newly-opened "Deportation Depot," which are migrant detainment facilities in the Everglades and the Baker Correctional Institute in Sanderson.

"We want a process, stage, and return illegal aliens to their home country. That is the name of the game," said Gov. DeSantis on Thursday, adding, "And that's what we do in Florida. We know that this is an important national priority. Not only of President Trump, but the American people."
