Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) discussed a recent shouting match between Democratic Senators over the bipartisan police funding bill in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Evening Edit.
For additional context, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) accused Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) of "complicity" with President Donald Trump in supporting a bipartisan police bill, which he further said would politicize funding.
However, Sens. Klobuchar and Cortez Masto pointed out that Sen. Booker previously voted in favor of the bills out of the Judiciary Committee despite not being present at the hearing.
Rep. Steube commented on the event, saying, "It is not the first time that we have seen Democrats going against funding for our law enforcement officers. This is the Defund the Police movement, and this is at its highest level, the Democrat Senator on the floor complaining against funding going to our law enforcement officers."
Additionally, he suggested that "Democrats are having temper tantrums on the floor" is because "[President] Trump is crushing it. The economy is booming, the border is shut down, we have trade deals all across the world, and America is moving forward because the America First agenda is moving forward, and Democrats just cannot help themselves."
Host Elizabeth MacDonald noted that New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is similarly flip-flopping on his previous "defund the police" sentiment, asking Rep. Steube for his take.
The Florida Congressman affirmed Mamdani's backpedaling, saying that he is "trying to back down from the positions that he had because he is running for Mayor in New York City, and he does not want the rest of the city to know how far-left and progressive he is."
"And if he wins, this guy is going to be the face of the Democratic Party nationwide," Steube concluded. "You are already hearing mainstream Democrats talk about the fact that they are going to lose the House in the midterms and continue to lose the House in the midterms if this guy gets elected Mayor of New York City because he is so far to the left of even his Democratic colleagues."
