From Kingmaker to Critic: Carollo's Rift with Rosado. Just weeks after helping secure newly elected Miami Commissioner Ralph Rosado’s narrow victory in the low-turnout District 4 special election, Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo has turned against his former political ally. The cause of the split? Rosado’s first vote on the Commission—to support delaying the November 2025 city elections.
That vote, seen by many as a self-serving move to extend current commissioners' terms, and part of a controversial 3–2 decision by the Commission, triggered immediate political backlash. In a dramatic reversal, Carollo publicly criticized Rosado and expressed regret over backing him.
In an interview with Local 10 News, Carollo stated, “Had I known this would be his first action, I would not have made sure that he would have won, adding, “Ralph Rosado is completely, completely controlled by Mayor Suarez.”
Mayoral candidate Emilio Gonzalez also weighed in during theLocal 10 interview, adding: “I don’t think [Carollo] needed to vote for it. He had a third vote—you know, Ralph Rosado.”
“I don’t know him, but the fact that he’s tried so long to be an elected official and his first act as an elected official in Miami is just to cancel an election after he got there because of an election, and then they extended their terms for a year? Again, very, very surprising coming from him," Gonzalez added.
Rosado’s office declined to elaborate further, telling Local 10 News it did not have any further comment.
“At this time, we do not have any additional statements to share regarding this matter," the office stated.
