For the first four days of June, Israel has been forced to defend its civilian population from consecutive Houthi missile attacks.
Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli Air Force (IAF) reported having to respond to presumptive Houthi attacks every day since the beginning of June.
“It’s only June 3, and for the third time this month millions of Israelis are running to shelter because of Houthi missile fire,” reported the IDF as they warned civilians to shelter in place.
Shortly thereafter, the IAF claimed that it had “intercepted an unmanned aircraft launched from the east,” which the Houthis reportedly claimed was an attack drone they launched towards Israel.
While the Houthis, an Iran-backed Yemeni terror group, have been targeting US, Israeli, and allies’ ships since Hamas’October 7th, 2023 attacks, their attacks have increased in frequency and intensity.
Houthi forces previously orchestrated drone and missile attacks against US military and commercial ships but ceased doing so after President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire agreement with them.
Consequently, the US has diminished its military presence in the region as its USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (CSG), previously patrolling the Red Sea to counter the Houthis’ attacks, recently returned home.
The Truman CSG’s deployment lasted over 250 days and reportedly fired over 1.1. million pounds of ordnance.
Thanks to President Trump’s ceasefire agreement, the Truman CSG's deployment - extended to maximize the US’scounter-Houthi operations - ended.
However, while the Houthis have since honored their agreement with the US, they have continued to fire missiles against Israel.
Some Houthi attacks are reportedly beginning to impact US interests in the region, as a recent hypersonic missile attack reportedly diverted a US military transport plane from landing at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.
The US has yet to respond to the Houthis’ continued strikes against Israel, but some sources claim this could change.
According to the latest fleet-tracking reports, the US’s Vinson CSG’s current position enables it to strike Houthi strongholds if needed.
