Mayor Cava Looks to run for Governor or Congress in 2026

Progressive Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava (D), who has had her fair share of is said to be considering a run for Governor in 2026, but could she also be mulling over a ‘Plan B’ that would pit her against either Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R) or Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R) in those to respectively competitive congressional seats?

Just like the quirky Miami-Dade, ‘Sweet Home Hialeah-esque’ campaign jingles that usually signal that political season is afoot, the rumor mill in the Miami boogie down is buzzing about Mayor Cava’s mid-term gubernatorial aspirations.

Mayor Cava, whose had her fair share of self-inflicted drama, is term-limited out, so why does she continue to fundraise as if she were running for reelection?

To quote Senator Jason Pizzo (I), who recently jumped off the sinking Democratic Party tugboat, “The Democratic Party is dead,” at least it appears to be.

Now that Cannoli Caucus member Sen. Pizzo has left the Democratic Party, is Cava the only hope Democrats have to defeat Rep. Byron Donalds if he wins the Republican gubernatorial nomination?

Democrats may not have a choice but to back  Cava in 2026.

But what if Cava decides not to run for Governor, and instead pivots and runs against a sitting Republican member of Congress?

One thing is for sure: Cava would shore up the Progressive fringe base of the Democratic Party, but would have a tough time convincing Independents and Republicans that she is anything less than Progressive.

Miami-Dade Voters vs. Democratic Socialism

Florida Democrats still don’t appear to have learned from their past election day results and continue to champion the progressive agenda that has cost then dearly over the past several election cycles.

Aside from Cava, most, if not all Democrats running on Democratic Socialism, have all lost their past and respective races.

Consultant Christian Ulvert, who has run Cava’s political and fundraising operations, has been neck deep in trying to elect other fellow progressive candidate, but has seen very mixed election results.

Ulvert is the go-to Democratic political operative in Miami-Dade County, and has led political efforts for the Florida Democratic Party.

Will Democrats change course, or is their brand really dead,  and on the verge of completely falling off the edge?
