For most Floridians, Governor Ron DeSantis has been the best governor in the state’s history. But while Gov. DeSantis has helped Republicans garner a 1,000,000 voter registration advantage over their Democratic Party counterparts, there is one elected official in Florida that has outpaced ‘America’s Governor’ at the ballot box—Attorney General Ashley Moody.
It may be hard to believe, but Moody has garnered more votes than Gov. DeSantis in both the 2018 and 2022 elections.
Que? What?
Republicans in the political process know this to be true but don't talk much about it. Democrats, however, do talk about it as they continue to lick their wounds after getting hammered at the ballot box over the past 3 election cycles.
This is true. Even in the 2022 midterm election, where Gov. DeSantis crushed Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist by 19 percentage points, Moody did better.
Florida Democrats are looking for some hope, any hope of being successful in future elections.
General Moody, a former Democrat and Judicial Circuit Court Judge has relentlessly needled criminals in the state since she was first elected to statewide office in 2018.
Moody, who succeeded her friend and former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, is now rumored to be being considered by DeSantis to replace Senator Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate.
Sen. Rubio was tapped to be President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of State and will have to resign from the Senate once he is confirmed. DeSantis recently announced that he would name Rubio’s successor in January.
