New footage from James Copenhaver, one of the two men injured in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, appears to show shooter Thomas Crooks moving across the rooftop from which he shot, clearly visible. Representative Mike Waltz (R-FL) reacted to the development in a recent appearance on Fox News's Jesse Watters Primetime, saying plenty of people need to be fired because of it.
Rep. Waltz began by saying former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle "made an absolute debacle of herself" during her hearing before Congress before continuing, "This administration has a real problem throughout the entire thing from the Defense Department to the Secret Service with one word, and that is accountability or the lack thereof."
"And look, at the end of the day, the American people have got to see people held accountable and fired or at least suspended," Rep. Waltz continued, noting that he was talking to a local sheriff who had suspended a deputy for the accidental discharge of a weapon, yet "the lead [Secret Service] agent is still approving rallies, still approving events when they did something so asinine and stupid as leaving that building outside of the perimeter. It is mind-blowing."
The Florida Congressman commended Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for creating a task force to investigate the shooting, prompting host Jesse Watters to ask who will receive subpoenas as part of the investigation.
Rep. Waltz stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation, stating, "We should subpoena the entire chain that approved the security plan for this rally, every one of them. We should be in the Secret Service buildings, we should be at the FBI, we should be at DHS." He pointed out the contradiction in the statements of both Mayorkas and the Secret Service spokesperson, who claimed that Trump was never denied any resources, despite agents telling him that it had repeatedly happened. He concluded that they should be fired and subpoenaed before the committee for a thorough and accountable investigation.
