National Security Adviser Mike Waltz appeared on Fox and Friends to discuss Judge James Boasberg's blockage of President Donald Trump's deportation of Tren de Aragua gang members, saying it is within Trump's authority to do so.
Waltz began the discussion by comparing the current situation to the aftermath of September 11th, 2001, saying, "I can remember when people were trying to arrest Osama Bin Laden and were trying to arrest Al Qaeda and debating whether they had the evidentiary standards to get them through due process here in the United States, which is a very high bar."
As a result, Waltz suggested that because Tren de Aragua has been designated a foreign terrorist organization (FTO), they must be considered such.
"They are no different than ISIS," Waltz continued, "They maim, kill, torture, create mayhem [and] chaos in our streets in the United States, and I think if you had some of those tattooed, shaved-head men labeled 'ISIS,' then we would not even be having this debate. So this is about a wholesale shift on what a terrorist is and how they should be treated in the United States, how they should be treated when they are attacking our soil and when they are violating our sovereignty and terrorizing our citizens."
While Waltz acknowledged friction between the White House and the Supreme Court would naturally arise during this apparent shift, "this is squarely under the Commander-in-Chief's authority to keep Americans safe."
President Trump heavily criticized Judge Boasberg in a recent Truth Social post, calling the judge a "Radical Left Lunatic of a Judge, a troublemaker and agitator who was sadly appointed by Barack Hussein Obama."
"This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges' I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!! WE DON'T WANT VICIOUS, VIOLENT, AND DEMENTED CRIMINALS, MANY OF THEM DERANGED MURDERERS, IN OUR COUNTRY. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!" Trump concluded.
As a result, Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) introduced articles of impeachment against Boasberg. Similarly, Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) has introduced legislation prohibiting federal courts from issuing injunctive orders that bar enforcement of a federal law or policy against a nonparty unless a party in a class action lawsuit represents the nonparty.
