Gimenez Says Trump Immunity Ruling 'Affirms 200 Years of Precedent'

Share

The recent Supreme Court ruling that former President Donald Trump is immune from prosecution for official actions inspires discussion and controversy, especially among Democrats. Republicans have quickly dismissed their concerns, with Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) saying in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Varney & Co. that the ruling "just basically affirms 200 years of precedent in terms of what a President can be charged with."

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) announced she would file articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court, which Rep. Gimenez said would go nowhere and only demonstrated how "their hair is on fire, but that is what happens with Democrats when they do not get their way."

Additionally, Rep. Gimenez referred to claims that the President of the United States had effectively become a king through the ruling as "absolutely an overreaction, but that is par for the course for Democrats now."

"They just go way over. Look, you cannot really prosecute a president for doing his official actions because then that will handcuff that President in making decisions, always worried about, 'Gee, can I be prosecuted for this? Am I going to be prosecuted for this later on?' That is what Third World countries do. That is not what America does. And so the Supreme Court is absolutely right in its ruling and affirming basically 200 years of precedent that we have had in this country that has actually worked pretty well for the United States of America," the Florida Congressman continued.

The conversation then shifted to recent comments made by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who claimed the Thursday night debate between Trump and President Biden, who many say performed poorly, did not reflect his foreign policy, as the President has restored "confidence in American leadership has gone up dramatically over the last 3-1/2 years."

Gimenez did not mince words in his response, calling Blinken's comments "ridiculous" and pointing out that he orchestrated the 51 intelligence officials to falsely claim Hunter Biden's laptop was "Russian disinformation."

"So I do not believe a word that comes out of Secretary Blinken's mouth. I do not believe a word that comes out of Biden's mouth. He is the biggest serial liar we have ever had as President of the United States... Everything that the Democrats say, everything that Biden says and Blinken says is, believe me, it is the complete opposite," Gimenez concluded.
