The 2024 general election is underway and issues like illegal immigration are on the ballot. While Republicans have highlighted the growing concern, Democrats have mobilized an effort to address abortion rights in the country. President Donald Trump (R) has now responded to criticism aimed at him, calling on Republicans to include "three exceptions" in their abortion position.
President Joe Biden (D) has warned voters that President Trump getting back in the White House would be a step back for the country. One of the concerns he's highlighted is abortion issues. After a New York Times report indicated that President Trump supported a 16 week abortion ban, Democrats and President Biden have been heavily critical of the Republican challenger.
Last month, President Biden said "after being the one responsible for taking away women’s freedom, after being the one to put women’s lives in danger, after being the one who has unleashed all this cruelty and chaos all across America, Trump is running scared."
In response to the criticism, President Trump is now calling on Republicans to change their approach to the conversation regarding abortion access in the U.S.
During a recent interview with FOX News' "MediaBuzz," President Trump commented on the discussion, saying that Republicans need to better communicate their position. "If the Republicans spoke about it correctly, it never hurt me from the standpoint of elections. It hurt a lot of Republicans. I think you have to have... the three exceptions."
"I tell people, number one, you have to go with your heart... but beyond that you also have to get elected, ok? And if you don't have the three exceptions, I think it's very, very hard to get elected. We had a gentleman from Pennsylvania who was doing pretty well. He refused to go with the exceptions, and he lost in a landslide for governor," President Trump further expressed.
The three exceptions he's referring to are rape, incest, and the health of the mother.
Regarding the official stance his campaign will be adopting, he said that he will be providing that answer soon.
"The number of weeks, I'll be coming out with a recommendation fairly soon. I think it'll be accepted."
