Scott Highlights Terrorists at Border, Demands Security

As illegal migrants continue pouring over the southern border and terrorists hide among them, fears of a terror attack on American soil continue to grow. Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), Todd Young (R-IN), and others wrote a letter to the Biden Administration urging border security for this exact reason, citing the Hamas attack on October 7th as a template for "copycat" acts of violence.

As The Floridian has covered, over 150 known terrorists have been intercepted at the border in the fiscal year of 2023 alone. Many Florida lawmakers, such as Governor Ron DeSantis (R), Representatives Anna Paulina Luna (R), Vern Buchanan (R), and Attorney General Ashley Moody, have warned of the probability they are waiting to strike.

This concern is reflected in Sen. Scott's letter, as it says, "Our Southern border is a matter of deep national concern and insecurity. With rising violence and economic crises around the world pushing many people towards our borders, the record levels of illegal crossings and the spike in Border Patrol apprehensions of individuals matching the U.S. terror watchlist are alarming."

Moreover, the letter centered on Hamas, as their "ties to the Iranian government" and "active publication of digital propaganda, reminiscent of ISIS strategies, further complicates this picture and potentially expands its scope of influence."

The October 7th Hamas attack has already inspired supporters across the United States to publicly side with the Palestinians and demand a ceasefire in the ongoing battle, while Muslims in Dagestan, Russia recently stormed an airport hunting for Jewish passengers arriving from Tel Aviv in what could be effectively described as a pogrom.

As a result, Sen. Scott and Sen. Young demanded a classified briefing from the Biden Administration on how they intend to counter potential terror threats and bolster the southern border.

"We urge you to reassess, reinforce, and bolster our border and internal security measures. In light of the seriousness of these potential threats and the likely need for additional resources, we request that you ensure senior administration officials brief Members of Congress no later than November 8 with any findings and recommendations, to ensure a coordinated and informed response," Scott and Young continued, warning that "The consequences of lapses in security can be catastrophic."
