On Oct. 17, a hospital in Gaza was hit by a rocket. Immediately the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) were blamed for the destruction, but the IDF claimed that it was a misfire by Hamas terrorists. President Joe Biden (D) has backed Israel’s claim, leading Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) to declare that Israel now has another battle to face in this war.

The secondary battle? Fake news from the American media, according to Rep. Mast.

“Shortly after an explosion in Gaza City, the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry came out and claimed that an Israeli airstrike on a hospital killed 500 people. Instead of fact-checking the group that had murdered thousands of civilians a week earlier, all the news outlets rushed to write the story with headlines like “Hundreds killed in Israeli air strike on Gaza hospital - health authorities” or “Israeli Strike kills Hundreds in Hospital, Palestinians Say,” wrote Mast in a blog post. He continued, “In fact, even some Members of Congress like Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Summer Lee did not give a second thought before tweeting condemnations on Israel for the atrocity.”

He would go on to claim that Hamas was indeed, lying.

“But here’s a problem: it turned out - unsurprisingly - Hamas was lying. According to the preliminary conclusion by our own Pentagon, the explosion was caused by a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket misfire. In fact, mounting evidence shows that not only was there little to no structural damage done to the hospital, it was the parking lot that was hit by the debris from the missile. Thanks to their eagerness to blame Israel, the news media is now busy walking back its original claims,” said Mast.

The Florida congressman concluded the letter by mentioning the Biden administration’s announcement of $100 million taxpayer dollars that will be sent to Gaza and the West Bank, which Mast believes will “fall into Hamas’ hands.”

“No matter the idiotic decisions from this White House, Israel has been and will continue to be one of the strongest allies of the United States. As your Representative, I will always make that clear and will continue to call out the Biden Administration for its ridiculous policies that too often put Americans and our allies last,” concluded Mast.

This is not the first time that Rep. Mast has come to the defense of Israel. After finishing his service with the U.S. Army, the Florida congressman served in the IDF.
