Rubio Reiterates Importance of Inquiry Before Impeachment

The House impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden will have its first hearing on September 28th. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) appeared on NewsMax's Wake Up America to reiterate the importance of having an inquiry before launching an impeachment trial, warning that this would trivialize impeachment and turn it into a weapon.

He reiterated that while the House is right to delve deeper based on current evidence, "Donald Trump was impeached while he was President, frankly, for far less evidence than what this inquiry has already produced, and he was impeached a second time when he was out of office."

"And so my fear now is that we trivialize impeachment, something that is really an extraordinary measure now becomes a normal thing that parties do to each other, and we turn into Peru," said Sen. Rubio, referencing how Peru has launched multiple impeachments against its past seven Presidents.

The host replied that the inquiry was likely to become an impeachment trial and inquired if the evidence found already was not enough. Rubio reiterated that the intention of the inquiry is to uncover further evidence the House is sure exists that they do not currently have and would support a trial if it comes down to it.

"I am just saying, again, my concern remains that now this has become a weapon that both sides are going to use against each other. I would prefer to just beat Joe Biden at the ballot box in November, but if there is evidence, you cannot ignore it, and they have to produce it. They are working on producing it, and that is why they are doing this inquiry. So this is a process to produce the evidence you have described and outline it very clearly," Rubio continued.

Moreover, he concluded that if the evidence does not exist, "Joe Biden should be the first one out there saying, "I am going to give you guys everything voluntarily so we can put this behind us, and I can expose you guys for telling lies about me." He has not done that. They have not done that. Instead, they are fighting it, criticizing it, and fighting it as a political war. So we will see what they produce. They are pretty confident they are on the right track, and ultimately, the evidence will decide whether an impeachment process is justified or not."
