Levine Cava Applauds Extended TPS for Venezuelans

The Biden administration has announced humanitarian relief for Venezuelans in the United States. The announcement comes after Democrats have been split over immigration concerns in the country. As such, lawmakers are now praising the Biden administration’s decision, calling it much-needed assistance. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava applauded the decision to provide extended Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for Venezuelans, noting the help it will provide for Venezuelans in Miami-Dade.

In a statement, Mayor Levine Cava praised the Biden administration for its decision to extend TPS for Venezuelans. “South Florida has long been a beacon of hope for hundreds of thousands of families who escaped tyranny, oppression, warfare, and human rights violations.”

“Many Miami-Dade County residents – including Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, and Haitians – have received TPS and as a result, have made invaluable contributions to both our community and economy,” the mayor added.

Releasing the statement on social media, Mayor Levine highlighted that Miami-Dade is “home to the largest Venezuelan population in the US” before applauding the Department of Homeland Security’s “announcement to extend and redesignate TPS for those fleeing oppression and seeking freedom.”

Democrats have pressured the White House to provide more aid to asylum seekers, and the decision from the White House would accelerate work permits for migrants.

The Department of Homeland Security now plans on granting TPS to an estimated 472,000 Venezuelans who have been in the country as of July 31^st.

New York Mayor Eric Adams (D) recently made headlines after he voiced his frustration over illegal immigration in New York. In his comments, he’s criticized President Biden over his handling of illegal immigration in the country.

One of Mayor Adams’ demands was for the White House to expedite work authorizations for migrants that are in New York, so they would be able to get jobs and not rely on the social safety net.
