As gas prices have increased rather quickly in the last month and especially in the last week, Representative Brian Mast (R-FL) is calling for the Senate to pass the Lower Energy Costs Act, introduced by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA).
According to AAA, fuel costs have risen approximately 29 cents in the last month, and 11 cents in just the last week.
“America has an abundance of natural resources from sea to shining sea. Our nation can choose to be energy independent if we want to,” wrote Rep. Mast in a blog post.
He would later mention, “And now, Americans are seeing the result of President Biden’s #AmericaLast policies. In fact, our own Treasure Coast community saw the highest daily average price at the pump since April. Families in every community in our country are being crushed by rising prices prompted by President Biden’s failed policies. This trend needs to be reversed,” said Rep. Mast before urging the Senate to take up the Lower Energy Costs Act.
“Our government needs to step up and unleash American energy. The Senate should take up this bill and act now to prioritize Americans and our energy, and send the bill to the President’s desk. House Republicans will continue to fight for Americans and their livelihoods," Mast stated.
The bill would increase energy production in areas such as the Gulf of Mexico, provide reformation to the permitting process for the energy industry, reverse “anti-energy policies advanced by the Biden Administration,” and streamline energy infrastructure and exports, according to Rep. Scalise’s press release regarding the introduction of the bill.
“For the last two years, President Biden and his extremist friends in Washington have waged a war on American energy, and hard-working families across the country are paying the price. Gas and utility costs have skyrocketed to record highs, with the average American paying over 40 percent more for gas at the pump since President Biden took office,” stated Rep. Scalise. “Voters gave Republicans the majority in Congress to stop this radical anti-American energy agenda, and to take action that will lower prices, and House Republicans listened.”
With the Senate in Democratic control, it is extremely unlikely that the bill will be taken up, let alone pass.
