MIAMI - The Florida Democratic Party congratulated gun control activist and March for Our Lives co-founder David Hogg after he was elected vice chair of the Democratic National Committee on Saturday.

“Congratulations to our new DNC Vice Chair, David Hogg.  “David Hogg’s journey is truly remarkable — from Parkland survivor to national gun violence prevention advocate to now, the first member of Gen Z to serve as Vice Chair of the DNC," Democratic Party Chair Nikki Freid said. "David’s unique life experiences and skills will transform the way Democrats engage with young voters and elevate how we run campaigns."

David Hogg earned 214.5 votes to become vice chair after four rounds of voting. In addition, Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta earned 298 votes, more than the 205 votes needed to become vice chair.

Nevada's Artie Blanco was also elected vice chair after three rounds of voting.

Hogg, 24, survived the 2018 shooting massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He has since become an outspoken progressive activist and gun safety advocate.

After Stoneman Douglas, Hogg attended and graduated from Harvard University in 2023. That same year, he co-founded Leaders We Deserve, a progressive grassroots organization "dedicated to electing young progressives" to Congress and State Legislatures across the United States

Hogg is the first Gen Z member elected as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee. He previously criticized the party for failing to reach young American men in the 2024 presidential election.

In particular, Hogg criticized national Democrats and Vice President Kamala Harris for not appearing on Joe Rogan's popular right-leaning podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. The podcast drew 14.5 million followers on Spotify alone back in March 2024 and is popular with men.

Along with Hogg, the Democratic National Committee elected Ken Martin as chair. The 51-year-old previously served as chair of Minnesota's Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party.

The committee also announced Jason Rae and Virginia McGregor will continue to serve as secretary and treasurer, respectively. Furthermore, Chris Korge will continue to serve as finance chair.

Other elected roles included Reyna Walters-Morgan as vice chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Participation (CEVP).
