DeSantis and Debate Night

Milwaukee—The first Republican presidential debate is finally here, and while former President Donald Trump will not be in attendance, The Floridian will be.

All eyes will be on Governor Ron DeSantis.

This debate could be a make-or-break moment for DeSantis as pressure continues to mount for him to outperform the field of candidates and prove to prospective voters that he really is the viable option to President Trump.

DeSantis needs to have a stellar night. If he doesn't, if he allows himself to get taken off message by the certain political barbs that will come his way, he could sink his already fledging presidential campaign.

Trump, the 800-pound gorilla in the room, will be the focal point, but DeSantis cannot focus on him. DeSantis needs to take his licks against what Trump couldn't finish as president and move on to talking about his vision for America.

DeSantis needs to also stop saying the word Florida, even though his record in the state is what got him here.

Also, he needs to not let himself get bogged down with the recent controversial remark he made about Trump, Trump endorsements, and Trump supporters.

It's a lose-lose if he feels compelled to explain himself.

If DeSantis is not on his game and if he allows himself to be taken off message, it could be lights out for his campaign.

He needs to score big. The rest of the field of candidates will be trying to move the political needle in their favor and will use DeSantis as a punching back to accomplish that.

Word on the street is that the Fat Lady is tuning up her chords and is close to belting out her song.
