As the nation prepares for the United States 247th birthday this Independence Day, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) spoke with the Washington Examiner on how he would celebrate the nation's 250th Independence Day in 2026 if elected President.
Gov. DeSantis answered he would essentially plan for a year to build up to the 250th, emphasizing the Founders and their willingness to risk it all for liberty. Press Secretary Bryan Griffin tweeted the response below:
"I think we will do something big on the Fourth [of July]. But I think we need to do a lot starting in January 2025 to really build up to that," said Gov. DeSantis.
Additionally, he believed the 250th Independence Day would offer "an opportunity to do some great civics education for this country."

"I think this is an opportunity to do some great civics education for this country. How did we get to the point where [the Founding Fathers] declared independence and what did they do after that with the Constitution to really fortify the victory over the British?" DeSantis continued.
As a result, he expressed a desire to focus on several of the Founders and "really get that back into the bloodstream," adding his efforts to promote the importance of American ideals in Florida schools as Governor.
Moreover, he reiterated that the Founding Fathers "had pretty good lives" yet fought to preserve liberties they believed would be quickly lost if they did not resist British rule.
"They were not like a ragtag group of people. They all had pretty good lives, and they could have just taken the path of least resistance and just kind of bowed down to the British rule. But they really believed as a matter of principle that if they did not have representation, if they gave an inch, then they would be consigning this whole continent to tyranny. And so they stood up when very few people would have. They risked their lives, their fortunes, and sacred honor; they would have been beheaded had it not succeeded," DeSantis stated.
Finally, he hoped the 250th Independence Day would create "a new birth of freedom in this country as we reflect on it."
