Lauren Book to Speak at White House in Defense of Abortion

Share

As abortion climbs to become a more contentious topic in American politics, local State Senator Lauren Book (D-FL) will be attending the White House State Legislative Convening on Abortion Rights.

The event will host representatives from states that have historically battled for pro-life policy, including Florida.  Sen. Book has notably been the most outspoken, and arguably most zealous advocate of choice in the state of Florida, especially since Republicans revved up efforts on abortion, passing the heartbeat bill.

In protest of the recent Heartbeat bill, Book was arrested along with other pro-choice advocates in Tallahassee, Florida.  The senator has also been a member of the "abortion is healthcare," camp.  When Florida passed the 15-week abortion ban the Senator stated, "This war has never been about life. It has always been about control."

Ahead of the conference, Leader Book said, “It is so important that we stand together in this war to protect reproductive rights. We’re at a turning point for abortion access in the United States and in Florida, with more restrictive laws from politicians who have no business meddling in private conversations between women and their doctors. By standing together at the White House with other lawmakers facing similar challenges, we have an opportunity to continue to fight for the freedom to choose - because no one is going to save us but ourselves.”

Book will now close out the White House event as one of the speakers at the final event.  In attendance will also be Florida's own Senator Lori Berman (D-FL).
