WASHINGTON—Florida Rep. Bryon Donalds sat down with The Floridian to talk about Gov. Ron DeSantis’s recently signed Parental Rights in Education law that Progressive Democrats have dubbed the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.
Rep. Donald believes that the bill was the “right thing to do” and that “the Democrat response is dumb,” adding that the “rank and file Democrats” he has spoken to, support the new law.
“First of all, the bill is the right thing to do. Second, I think the Democrat response is dumb because I've talked to rank and file Democrats who are not in an elected position and they agree with governor DeSantis they agree with the Republican legislature,” said Rep. Donalds.
A recent poll conducted this past week confirms Donalds' claim that Democrats support the measure.
Donalds asserts that the only people who support teachers talking to children about “gender fluidity and sexual identity” the “very radical, adding that Equality Florida, a group that pushes an LGBTQ agenda, was “quite radical.”
But he did not stop with Equality Florida. Donalds said that Disney, who has openly denounced the parental rights measure, will be hearing from many of their supporters who do support the parental rights bill.
“I think Disney has lost their ever-loving mind and I think they're gonna see a response from a lot of their customers who agree with what the state of Florida has done,” added Donalds.
Donalds’s colleague in the House of Representatives, Rep. Brian Mast, also supports Gov. DeSantis’s new law.
Rep. Sheila Cherifulus-McCormack (D), the newest member of Congress after winning a January special congressional election in South Florida, disagreed.
While Rep. Cherifulus-McCormack did not slam the law, she did tell The Floridian that the law only served to “divide” and alienate Florida families.
