Just as a recent Mason-Dixon poll results showed in asurvey conducted for the 2022 midterm gubernatorial election, Florida Republicans are in a position to retain Senator Marco Rubio’s Senate seat.
In the latest poll of 625 likely statewide voters, Sen. Rubio leads Rep. Val Demings by a 49% to 42% vote margin with 9% of those surveyed being “undecided.”
According to the poll, in order for Rep. Demings to defeat Sen. Rubio, she must garner the support of “more unaffiliated voters, but that task could be more of a heavy lift for her considering that 10% of Independents polled support Sen. Rubio.
“Independent voters must swing to Demings. As the campaign progresses, that will be the trend to watch for -- absent that shift, Rubio will be re-elected,” stated Mason-Dixon in their summary of the poll.
In addition, the polling company believes that Demings must also contend with the fact that President Biden’s approval rating is at record low levels in Florida.
“Statewide, only 40% of Florida voters approve of Biden’s performance in office, while 55% disapprove and 5% are not sure. Among independents, just 33% approve, while 61% disapprove.”-Mason Dixon
Rep. Demings has embraced President Biden’s entire agenda and endorsed the president when she was on the shortlist of vice presidential running mates.
"What I do know is America is always at its best when people have the opportunity to succeed," Demings told CNN's John Berman on "New Day." "And we have leaders in place who understand that. That's why I'm so proud this morning to endorse Joe Biden for the next president of the United States. “If we look at Vice President Biden’s record, he has been there in the trenches fighting for those things that are important to the American people,” she added. “So I’m excited about this opportunity. I’m excited about the upcoming primary in Florida, and let’s get this done.”
The Rubio for Senate campaign has been campaigning on the fact that Demings has fully embraced Biden’s domestic and foreign policy agendas, and has backed most, if not all, of Biden’s and Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s progressive-minded legislative agenda in the U.S. Congress.
Rubio has been pointed to the Demings’ solid 94%+ voting record with the Progressive House “Squad.”
