While Anna Paulina Luna (R) and Amanda Makki (R) make headlines in Florida's 13th Congressional primary race with their rivalry and fundraising competition, Florida Rep. Ben Diamond (D) is also making a run for Florida’s 13th Congressional District, and he’s signaling that President Donald Trump (R) poses a threat to Democrats in the congressional race.

Diamond has far outraised both Republican candidates, and he faces contention in the Democratic primary against Michele Rayner-Goolsby (D) and former President Barack Obama’s (D) national security advisor Eric Lynn (D), who’s also vying for the seat that will succeed Florida Rep. Charlie Crist (D).

Although Diamond leads in fundraising, the Democratic lawmaker made a pitch to voters, calling the race “the most competitive congressional election in Florida.”

“The only way we can defeat Donald Trump’s hand-picked opponent in this critical battleground congressional seat is by relying on supporters like you to power our campaign,” Diamond wrote in a voter pitch. The “hand-picked” candidate is Anna Paulina Luna, who received an endorsement from President Trump. Moreover, President Trump is hosting a fundraiser for the congressional hopeful.

“Your support today will not only help us defeat Trump’s hand-picked candidate, it will help us protect our razor-thin Democratic majority in Congress that we need to enact policies that help the people of Pinellas County, or state, and our nation.”

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also released a fundraising pitch to supporters, warning of the threat that President Trump poses on congressional races in 2022.

“Donald Trump suggested he’ll run for President if Republicans flip the House,” and “Republicans just took the biggest lead they’ve had in the polls in FORTY YEARS,” the email read.

President Trump has been vocal about his involvement in the upcoming 2022 midterm election, signaling that he’ll be supporting “pro-Trump candidates.” This means that he’ll be campaigning against Democrats while also campaigning against some Republicans.

According to Trump, this also includes Makki, whom he referred to as a RINO (Republican In Name Only).
