With the new Biden administration taking hold in Washington, Conservatives, and Republicans across the country, like Texas GOP Chairman and Ret. Lt. Colonel Allen West, expected that President Joe Biden would follow up on his campaign promise to challenge the  2nd Amendment and press for a gun ban.

On the anniversary of the February 14 school shooting in Parkland, Florida, President Biden made good on his campaign promise to press for restrictive gun control measures

Biden announced that he would be asking Congress to “enact commonsense gun law reforms” that would include the requirement of “background checks on all gun sales, banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and eliminating immunity for gun manufacturers who knowingly put weapons of war on our streets.”

Weapons of war?

In a statement to Texas Politics regarding Biden’s call to unarm Americans, West equated the Biden administration to the past “totalitarian regimes” of Adolf Hitler, Hugo Chavez, Fidel Castro, and Mao Zedong, stating that their past actions to “disarm” and “subjugate” individuals is “no different with the tyrants of the progressive socialist left who control the Democrat Party.”

Chairman West pointed to the Texas GOP’s eight legislative priorities they are pushing during this year’s legislative session, where one of those priorities includes the preservation of the right to bear arms.

“Joe Biden is nothing more than a leftist puppet and is going down the path we all suspected,” stated West. “Knives, baseball bats, and anything used to harm assault, another human being is a weapon, to include one’s own hands. Firearms, such as semi automatic weapons, pose no harm to anyone unless in the hands of someone intending harm.“

Calling Biden’s move “unconstitutional,” West added that Texans would “not be disarmed and turned into subjects so that tyranny, drug cartels, and criminals can have us live in fear.”

Here is West’s full statement:

“From Hitler to Mao to Castro to Hugo Chavez, history has taught us that totalitarian regimes seek to disarm the people in order to subjugate them. It’s no different with the tyrants of the progressive socialist left who control the Democrat Party. All one needs for evidence is to read HRs 127 and 130 proposed by the delusional Democrat Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas. This is why constitutional carry is one of the Republican Party of Texas eight legislative priorities for our 87th legislative session. Joe Biden is nothing more than a leftist puppet and is going down the path we all suspected. Knives, baseball bats, and anything used to harm, assault, another human being is a weapon, to include one’s own hands. Firearms, such as semi automatic weapons, pose no harm to anyone unless in the hands of someone intending harm. This collective punishment of law abiding legal gun owners, such as myself, is unconstitutional and unAmerican. The citizens of Texas will not be disarmed and turned into subjects so that tyranny, drug cartels, and criminals can have us live in fear. Texans live by a simple motto, ‘Come and Take It’, asserted on October 2, 1835 when a despotic government demanded disarmament.”

Texas Rep. Pete Sessions (R) also told Texas Politics he trusts "the American people understand this unwise language to achieve gun control."

"Rights to take away court approved Constitutional rights should not be engaged in by this President," stated Rep. Session.  "I trust the American people understand this unwise language to achieve gun control."
