DeSantis looks to protect First Amendment Rights, but Nikki Fried doesn't get it

Florida's Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried likes to chide Gov. Ron DeSantis by towing Democratic Party talking points about how he has failed Floridians on just about every issue, but before she continues to blame DeSantis on the ills of the world, maybe she should first think a little deeper before she speaks about First Amendment rights?

A few days ago, AG Fried took issue with DeSantis telling a group of Conservative-minded Texans in Austin that he was concerned about how the Parler social media application was completely shut down by Amazon.

“What Twitter did to the president … that’s obviously a big deal, and I don’t want to minimize that,” DeSantis said. “But what really bothered me is how they decapitated this company, Parler."

Fried, who apparently didn't read between the lines or put much critical thinking into what DeSantis was saying, tweeted that DeSantis "actually said @parler_app is the most important legislative issue" for him, instead of addressing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

According to POLITICO, "DeSantis said passing laws to protect what he sees as conservative censorship is “probably the most important legislative issue” Florida has headed into the 2021 legislative session."

So instead of dumbing it down for her, let's explain to AG Fried what DeSantis was referring to.

DeSantis said the issue was "probably" the most important issue. Fried said that DeSantis said it definitively was.

The bigger picture here is that if a company like Parler can get shut down the way they did, and millions of Americans are left without a voice, then it could happen on a widespread basis.

In other words, DeSantis is focused on preserving the First Amendment rights to all Americans, including Fried's.

If this is the case (it is), then preserving our Constitutional rights takes precedent over everything, including the ongoing pandemic.

But DeSantis isn't putting his administration's efforts in dealing with the pandemic on the back burner, or ignoring all together as Fried is implying.

Btw, there is only one "T" in monthly.
